Giving back is built
into how we operate.

Our flagship partnership

"We know that keeping a home clean while undergoing treatment is an impossible task. That's our job — and we're honored to do it."

— Amanda Matthews-Owens, Founder
Cleaning for a Reason

Free cleanings for
cancer patients.

Cleaning for a Reason is a national nonprofit that partners with professional cleaning companies to provide free home cleaning services to people battling cancer. The Modern Maid has been a proud partner for years — donating free cleanings every month to local cancer patients: two cleanings a month apart per patient, for more than two patients each month.

The last thing someone fighting for their health should worry about is whether their bathroom is clean. That's our job, and we're honored to do it.

Who qualifies

Anyone in our service area who is actively receiving cancer treatment.

What they receive

Two professional home cleanings, a month apart, provided at no cost to them.

Laundry Love

Dignity & clean clothes for neighbors in need

Laundry Love is a movement of communities providing free laundry service for people experiencing poverty or homelessness. The Modern Maid supports it quietly, behind the scenes — donating detergent, softener, and quarters so neighbors have access to clean clothes.

Clean clothes and a clean home are both matters of dignity. That's why we help keep this program going.

Pacer Pantry

Supporting Delaware City Schools families

The Pacer Pantry serves students and families who face food insecurity in Delaware City Schools. The Modern Maid contributes regularly — picking up non-perishable donations from our customers on cleaning day and giving from our own pantry too. The same families who need help with their homes often need help putting food on the table.

We believe in Delaware. These programs are how we put that into practice.

First Fridays Delaware

Downtown, the first Friday
of every month.

First Fridays is Delaware's beloved monthly street event — live music, local vendors, gallery openings, and the kind of community gathering that fills historic downtown. The Modern Maid is proud to be part of Main Street Delaware, the organization behind it.

We're not set up at a booth every First Friday, but you'll often find us downtown — and when we are, it's a natural chance to connect with neighbors and the families we clean for. Say hello if you see us.

We clean homes.
We clean streets too.

Every Wednesday morning — weather permitting — the team is out cleaning up downtown Delaware, picking up trash and helping maintain the character of the historic district that so many of our clients call home.

We believe that if you're in the business of making spaces better, you don't stop at the front door. The team donates their time and supplies because a clean community starts at the curb.

Business of the Year
2026.

The Modern Maid was named Business of the Year by Main Street Delaware, Inc. — an honor recognizing businesses that strengthen the economic and cultural fabric of historic downtown Delaware. For Amanda, it reflects 23 years of doing things the right way, showing up for this community, and proving that a small local business can make a big difference.
